Gaia model for Gaia/GREAT Chemo-Dynamics Survey Programme (GCDS)
A WGA1: Gaia Model interface meeting @ Mullard Space Science Laboratory, University College London, UK (29,30 March 2010)
Contents
Meeting Rationale
Gaia Research for European Astronomy Training (GREAT) Research Networking Programme has been approved by the European Science Foundation from Feb 2010 for 5 years. One of the GREAT working groups, 'WGA3: Chemical Tagging', is leading the development of a very large Gaia spectroscopy follow-up programme. This is likely to be of significant scale incorporating a range of Gaia Science themes. You can find their recent activities and the document of the science cases for "Wide Field Spectroscopy supporting key Gaia science" on WGA3MeetHiResFeb10. They will have the next meeting at the end of April, and discuss more specific plan and define the programme. Therefore, it would be timely to have a meeting for chemical evolution and dynamical evolution modelling experts in Europe to get together and discuss the key sciences that will be opened up by the complementary spectroscopy survey for Gaia. In particular, what observational data is required to allow comparison with models, in terms of for instance positional, velocity, chemistry information. Also, we hope that this will be a great opportunity to exchange the knowledge of the expertise and help the European community to build up the great sciences for the Gaia era.

Venue
MSSL is located at a beautiful countryside in Surrey and lies approximately 40 miles to the south-west of London. Therefore, it may be convenient for you to enjoy Easter holiday around London. Gatwick airport (about 40 minutes drive) is the nearest airport. Heathrow is about an hour's drive away. Please let me know your flight schedule. The nearest mainline train stations with fast connection to London are Guildford (35 mins to Waterloo) and Gatwick (30 min to Victoria). Unfortunately, there is no public transport to get to MSSL. We will arrange shared transportation from these airports and rail stations. Please let me know once you fixed your schedule. There is a plenty of free car park spaces at MSSL. Please see web for more information.
Accommodation
We are happy to arrange your hotels. Please contact me as soon as possible. You are also welcome to book your favourite hotels or B&B. There are some nice countryside B&B. A list of local accommodation can be found on web.
Registration
Please just send me (Daisuke Kawata, d.kawata at ucl.ac.uk) e-mail by 14th March, 2010.
Please also join WGA1 on WGA1GaiaModel.
